The eLumen Story

The founders of the eLumen Collaborative are former academic administrators whose institutions chose not to invest in solving the fundamental issue of the invisibility of student learning. David Shupe, after being Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Development at Inver Hills Community College, was System Director for Academic Accountability for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Initially the Collaborative sought funding from federal sources, state and national foundations, and established nonprofits. Determined to proceed when none of these would fund the work either, we approached Cytera Systems, a small, innovative, and courageous software development firm, who agreed to develop our software. The first version was released in October 2003, the second in August 2004.

Who We Are

David A. Shupe received his PhD from Syracuse University and most recently served as System Director for Academic Accountability at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU). Dr. Shupe has also served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Development at Inver Hills Community College and Program Director at the University of Minnesota.

Jennifer P. Lundblad has more than 15 years experience in higher education and health care, at Tufts University, the University of Minnesota and Stratis Health. She has an MBA in public and non-profit management from Boston University, and a PhD in Education from the University of Minnesota.

Laura L. Lewis has an MLS degree from the University of Minnesota and is President of Grand Development Consulting.

Our Software Partner

Cytera Systems, Inc. offers a unique approach to software solutions. Its “configurable components” provide an unprecedented level of versatility and simplicity without sacrificing an organization’s current investment in technology. These components are not only compatible with each other; they are compatible with virtually any other technology. Cytera’s approach to solving technology problems is fundamentally different: its products adapt to the way each organization operates. It has been recently named to Deloitte & Touche’s prestigious Fast 50 program, which is a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Minnesota.
