The possibilities for interaction between student services and assessment data are endless, with eLumen™ paving the way. If you’ve never thought about how assessment applies to student services, consider the benefits: Measuring student learning outside of the typical classroomStudent services departments that engage students in ways other than courses, such as student life, libraries, workshops, work study, service learning, and instructional support, can now also define student learning outcomes and rubrics, create assessment activities, and directly assess individual students. These results can then be reported along with institutional SLOs. eLumen gives legitimacy and recognition to student learning that occurs through student services and co-curricular activities. Learn more about eLumen’s features and reports » Proactively providing assistance when and where it is neededBecause eLumen tracks student learning outcomes at the student level, advisors have the opportunity to proactively intervene, as appropriate, with students who may need their assistance. They can even generate reports that show the effects of their engagements or interventions relative to student learning. Example use: Library WorkshopA library may offer a series of workshops to students each term on topics such as “Using Electronic Databases” and “Writing APA-Style Documentation.” Each of these workshops teaches skills that support areas of student achievement being tracked institution-wide, such as “Information Literacy” and “Writing Skills.” With eLumen, the library can set up a “setting” (the equivalent of a course section), populate it with students, and define an activity to be assessed. These results can then be counted toward one or more learning outcomes, just like an activity in a course section. |
